Sculptured Copper 3591
Sculptured copper is a three dimensional piece for decoration. The piece is approximately 5" l x 3" w x 3 "d and weighs 19 ounces. A one of a kind piece. Copper melts at 2200° F and is poured into water soaked straw. The straw forms the shape, the burns away, and the copper forms solidify in the cool water.
Old customs of the early miners indicate that lead was used in the above process. Fortune telling was a New Year's Day pastime; good or bad luck was determined by the shape and size of the sculpture. Following the old traditions, this sculptured copper has been proudly manufactured in Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula.
