Datolite is a bororsilicate mineral [hardness 5-5.5]. It is associated with native copper deposits in Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula. The characteristic 'cauliflower' shaped nodules range from 1-12 inches. The rarest colors are yellow, orange, green and red. White and pink are more common. Specks of copper or silver can appear with the datolite.
This Nodule form of Datolite is unique to the Keweenaw Peninsula.
